Getting to know our host in Sao Paulo

As the 2016 Congress of the International Federation of Actors fast approaches, it is time to find out a little more about our host union, SATED SP, and its President, Ligia de Paula.

SATED SP is the acronym for "Sindicato dos Artistas e Técnicos em Espetáculos de Diversão de São Paulo", "Union of Performers and Art Technicians from Sao Paulo" in English. The union, created in 1934, represents and defends the interests of artists and technicians in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil's most populous and wealthiest state. Among its many activities aiming to improve the lives and wellbeing of performers and technicians, the union recently created a shelter for elder and disabled performers who are no longer able to perform and who cannot afford to pay rent: the Actors' House. While visiting Sao Paulo in preparation of the Congress, the Secretariat paid a visit to the performers living in the Actors' House and found it very inspiring.

Great names of the Brazilian performing world have succeeded one another at the head of SATED SP: from Juca de Oliveira, famous actor and playwright, Lélia Abramo, Italian-Brazilian actress and political activist who played in 27 telenovelas, 14 films and 24 plays, and Antonio Petrin, actor and director who won the APETESP Award in 1983 with the play Ganhar ou Ganhar

For the past 30 years, Ligia de Paula has led the organisation. Film, television and theatre actress, Ligia de Paula started working on radio and TV when she was a child. As a grown-up, she first performed in theatre with some of the greatest Brazilian directors and later started a movie career. She played in about 30 movies. Ligia started her involvement with SATED SP in 1975.

Ligia and SATED SP's motivated staff are now working hard to prepare a Congress that should be one to remember. They are very excited about the idea of welcoming you in Sao Paulo.

Do not forget to register for the Congress by completing the registration form, available in English, French and Spanish.
